Gas Prices, What can WE do?

Just a rambling thought that has been rolling around in the rocky space between my ears for a while now.

Gas prices keep going up and up. They get to a certian point and hold for a while, then they start creeping up slowly. But look out when they hit those "magic" numbers. Have you noticed that they take a while to get to $X.499 and then jump to the $X.659 range real quickly? Then it is a slow climb to $X.999, but watch out from there, it will be at $X.249 in no time!

So, can we do anything? I know what will not work...not buying gas on a certian day will not work, not buying from one specific station will not work and just doing what we are doing now will not work...What will work is this, and the only way it will work is if LOTS of people do it.

HOW TO LOWER GAS PRICES:

Don't get caught up in the Internet hype that tells you not to buy gas on a certain day, the oil companies will just get your money the day after, it just delays it by a few hours, doesn't really cost them anything.
Don't get caught up in the Internet hype that tells you to boycott a certain station or company, they are too big for that to have a lasting effect.
DO drive to the gas station that is two or 3 cents cheaper, EVERY time. It may be only a couple of cents per gallon but it is cheaper. If everybody is going to Station A to buy their gas then Station B is not getting any business. If you were not getting any business what would you do? Personally, I would lower my prices to be less than the place that is getting all of the business. Then when Station B is charging less than Station A everybody needs to go there. We are the consumer, we have the power to control the prices, they can only charge what we are willing to pay. Simple law of supply and demand...if our demand is higher from the less expensive sources the more expensive sources will have a higher supply and lower their prices to try to compete...
So the next time you need to stop for gas, go the extra block or across the street to the place that is 2 cents cheaper, you may only save 20 cents on the fill up, but it all adds up in the long run.

So this is Elliott. The dog I didn't want. My wife was insistent that we needed a dog, my daughter and I did not really share her enthusiasm. I had said when Sara was 2 that we could get a dog when she was six, hoping that it would be forgotten by then, no such luck. After birthday number six came and went the search began...I said that I did not want a black dog and I did not want a male dog, ya know, kind of eliminate a lot of the possibilities. Well I lost on all accounts, we got a dog, it is male and he is black. I don't think he ever realized that I didn't really want him. Now that he has been here for about 16 months I couldn't imagine life without him, although I bet it would be peaceful! So here is a picture of my ever present companion doing what he does best, commanding attention!

So...if someone you love decides that YOU need a dog, give it a shot. You may end up with another great friend.

Hey look, a post!

OK, now that I have your attention...I really don't have anything to post. I just wanted to let you know that I am still here, just haven't had much that I can put into type. I guess that means this side of 40 has been thoughtless for a while, but don't give up on me, who knows when I will have something brilliant to say!

Oh, and to our friends in the Mid-Atlantic region....GIVE US OUR SNOW BACK!

Finally winter!

Well, it's here. For all of you who are south of us and got all that snow before us, I still say HAHA! I just finished clearing the driveway for the 3rd time this weekend and according to the weather forecast I will be doing it again before the day is done! Here is what greeted me this morning ...

But hey, this is Syracuse, at an average of 10 FEET of snow per season we get used to it real quick! Clear the driveway, go to work, come home, clear the driveway, have dinner, clear the driveway, watch TV, clear the drive way, go to bed...I think the snow blowers up here get almost as many miles as the motorcycles or jet skis do! After lunch it will be time to take the kid and the dog out into the backyard and see who gets lost first!

So, if you wear "cheaters" (those magnifying glasses you get to help you read) and you try to put on a pair when you are already wearing a pair, does that mean it is time to go see the eye doctor???
