Keep in mind when you look at this picture that the normal seasonal snowfall where my parents live is only about 30 inches, and I think that figure is being generous!

This doesn't happen often...

So here goes...Ha Ha you all got more snow than we did! Our seasonal total here in the "snowiest metropolitan area" stands at only 7 inches so far. Now we do realize that that will change, soon I'm sure, but for now...Ha Ha you got more snow than we did!

Wow, been a long time...

Things have been real busy up here. Lot's of traveling, lots of hours at work, lots of running around...This weekend though we took a break from it all. Saturday morning was a pancake breakfast with Santa at the local nature center, then the girls went off, one for scrapbooking and the other for a playdate. Cool, quiet time for Dad! Then today after church was lunch at the zoo with Santa! He and Sara chatted for about 7 to 8 minutes! At the very end they got to what she wanted for Christmas.
It is a wonderful gift to be able to spend this season with family. So be sure to remember those serving in our armed forces who are away from their families. Their sacrifice is what allows us to be here with ours!
At breakfast with Santa we got a Christmas song game. Each letter is the first letter of a word in a song. I'm going to post a few and see if you can get them!

Motivational Quote of the Day "A happy person is not a person in a certain set of circumstances, but rather a person with a certain set of attitudes." Hugh Downs   So, I get this motivational quote every day and they are usually pretty good.  Every once in a while there is one that really either hits home or makes me say "That's what I've been saying!".  This is one of those.  I have learned that the level of your happiness is directly related to how you react to things around you.  Your reaction is a choice, not a predetermined response.  You can train yourself to make the choice to react positivley in any circumstance, it takes work and is not always easy but is well worth it in the long run.  It is important to realize though, that reacting positivley does NOT mean just accepting that what happens happens or that it's all good.  There are many bad things that need to be reacted to, doing so positivley just means accepting that it happened and working on dealing with it.  So the next time something bad happens try to remain positive and see how it makes you feel, I can say from experience that it is much easier to deal with life's little bumps.  And, when you put things in the grand scheme, most everything is just little bumps.   Until then...

All Gone...

Well, a chapter in our lives has closed. This evening we delivered our truck to it's new owner. A couple of weeks ago we delivered the camper to it's new owner. And a couple of weeks before that we delivered the Probe to it's new owner, really would have been easier to sell it all as a package, but couldn't find anyone that crazy! Why would we get rid of all of them, you may wonder? We decided that it was time to do more instead of thinking of doing! It is amazing how much time you can devote to just one thing and not realize it. Camping is fantastic and we always managed to have a lot of fun, but we realized that we weren't doing anything else even though there was a lot we wanted to do, so it was time to change. Look out there's that evil word CHANGE...So, with the thought of change in our minds we decided to see what life will bring us when we are not either planning, camping or working on the camper. It has opened up all sorts of things that we had forgotten we liked doing and so far it has been great.

I guess the "lesson", if there is or needs to be one, is take time to step back and reassess what you have and what you are doing with it. Make sure that you are living life to the fullest and not just pouring all of your time and energy into one thing. After all they say that variety is the spice of life, whoever "they" are!

So...look out world, here come the W's!

Messing with MY Settings.....

Someone who shall be nameless was using MY LAPTOP...thus messing with my settings, thus resulting in the following post.....the nameless, accused would be the owner of THIS BLOG. And his messing with my settings, totally threw his absolute wonderful, perfect significant other over the edge as she had to do this damn post twice....

Gone Fishing....

Ya never know what your going find at our house. Keeps you guessing and keeps me hopping. I was working in yht scrapbook room and went upstairs to do something and this is what I found...

Trying New Things

Let's see if this works...I am trying to post this via e-mail, if you are reading it that means it worked...I also found that I can put in up to 10 e-mails to send the blog to anytime I publish something new, if you would like to get an e-mail like that let me know and depending on the numbers I can add you to my list.  You can also get an RSS feed, but I just started learning about that so I couldn't explain it if you begged me too!

Blogging

So here I sit, at my local library, taking a class on blogging and RSS feeds, while posting on my blog. Interesting fact, 12 years ago there were no blogs, now the estimate is over 300 million! China alone is estimated to have over 100 million alone, lots of blogs for such a private country. So I guess that there are alot of blogs out there for you all to check out, thanks for picking this one to check out! The Most Important American Holiday

Veterans Day, why do I feel it is the most important? Allow me to fill you in. The United States of America is a fantastic country to live in. Veterans Day is to celebrate the people who served in our armed forces in order to protect this great country. I feel that it is the most important because without those who served we would not be here as the United States and therefor would not be able to celebrate ANY holidays. Kind of makes sense, right? This November 11th take some time to remember all those who served and the sacrifices they made. Also remember their families and the sacrifices that they made as well. Make it a point to say thank you to a Veteran, they deserve to know how much they are appreciated.

Monday Morning

Mondays are usually tough for me, I am really not a morning person and Monday is usually the mother of all mornings! Today isn't all that bad though, in fact it's pretty darned good. Todays weather is sunny and warm with a high in the mid 70's, very unusual for this area, got some good news from a family member and a couple of nice good morning e-mails! Almost makes me like Monday mornings. Yeah, ALMOST!

Attacking Others in Cyberspace

Quite a catchy title, isn't it? I am looking for feedback on this one. It can be anonymous, and if you do not want it published here just say so and I will not publish it, but PLEASE give me some feedback.


An online community, such as blogs, Facebook, Myspace or twitter can be very powerful tools. They can be a blessing to people who are separated by great distances in allowing them to keep updated on the goings on in each others lives, they can be great for groups that cannot meet in person, they are even great for families to visit through. One thing that an online community should not be is a way for someone to personally attack another person. You may wonder, "How is that possible?". Let me run this by you and let me know what your thoughts are. I know someone who has, on six separate documented occasions, made comments online that are a direct attack on someone else that I know. These comments have been made very cleverly, so that the person making them can sit back with an air of self righteousness and say "It just sounds that way." or "If you really think that is what I am doing, you must have a guilty conscience" or any number of other self promoting ideas like that. It all makes me want to jump in and say ENOUGH, just grow up already, get on with your life and leave it alone!

So what are your thoughts? Am I expecting too much from an online community? Is this a reasonable use of this venue or is it out of line?....

Conditioning

So, the other day I got an e-mail with a list of funny questions, well some were funny. One of them was "Why do they put braille on drive up ATMs?" This struck me as funny because just the day before I went to my credit union's new drive up machine and was actually surprised that there was no braille on it. Just how much have we been conditioned to what is normal and what is not? Oh well...

Moving On With Life

So, there are a few different schools of thought on this idea. There is the idea that those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it, and there is also the idea that in order to move on with life you need to let go of the past. Heeeyyy, those aren't two two different schools of thought, they are each their own thoughts. One says forget and the other says let go. I firmly believe that the past is the past, you can't change it no matter how hard you try. There is a very big difference between forgetting and letting go. If something really bad happened to you in your past you really can't just forget it, and forgetting is not what letting go is all about anyways. Letting go is an active decision you need to make, sometimes more than once. If you have something in your past that either you did or someone did to you it is YOUR decision how long you will let it tear at you. While you may not be able to forget it you CAN decide to not let it control you, YOU are the only person that has that power. Isn't it great to be in charge of your own thoughtrs and feelings! This brings us around to another thought, or quote, or cliche, (or whatever you want to refer to them as!). "Today is the first day of the rest of your life." How do YOU want to live your life, remember, it's all up to you.

OK, the quote from Dale Carnegie: "All of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon - instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today." There is so much that has been said and written on this idea. Yet for some reason too many people just don't get it! How many times have you found yourself saying things like "when I loose some weight" or "when I get some more money" or "when I have more time" or "when I am retired" or...the list goes on and on. Whatever it is that you are waiting for, STOP WAITING! Sorry, didn't mean to shout. Life is a precious gift, each and every moment you have is a gift from God and each one only comes around once. Enjoy it as it happens, live it as it comes and most of all love the life you have.

The Potters

If you follow my wife's blog, which you should because it is fantastic, you saw a picture and a short blurb about the Potters. While we were up at Salmon River Falls we wandered around on the rocks at the top of the falls. Lot's of people paint or carve names, dates and initials on the rocks. One that caught my wife's attention was The Potters, followed by some random dates. They not only came to enjoy the serenity and the wonderful view, but they came at different times of the year to get the full effect of what the area has to offer. And at each visit they came back to the same spot and left a reminder for all to see that they were there. It makes me think about our lives in general, do we go through life doing the same things over and over again or do we step out of the box and try something different. I feel that as humans we get comfortable in a routine and end up going through the motions, but it is very important to break from that routine and do new and different things. Even when trying new things you can have that base like the Potters did. They came to the falls at different times of the year and saw different sights but that base, their section of rock, was always there to keep a stable base. Just made me think that doing something different doesn't mean you have to change up everything, just a little deviation from the norm.

Two thoughts this morning that I wanted to get down "on paper" before I forget them...

First is about a picture on my wife's blog from Salmon River Falls about the Potters and second is about the Daily Motivational Quote I have been getting e-mailed to me for about a year now. Today's quote is from Dale Carnegie: "All of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon - instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today." 16 years and counting

If you follow my wife's blog you have seen the pictures. If you haven't, you really should. Use the like to The Cutest Bear and check it out, she is really good at it! As for me I'm just at the words only stage right now. But...back to 16 years and counting...back in 1993 on August 21 I had my first visit with the woman who is now my wife. She took me to her favorite place, Fair Haven State Park. It was the start of something wonderful. Flash forward 16 years to 2009 on August 21st. After a very rough patch in our relationship my wife and I decided that something needed to change, and change it did. And it was the start of something wonderful! I find it amazing the little things that God throws into our daily lives so that we know we are on the right path. In 2009 neither of us knew what the date was of that original trip. It was just this weekend that we ended up there again and had another picture taken at the end of the pier. We were talking about how it was around the same time of year as the first trip so we looked when we got home and saw the date on the picture. Just a little nudge from God as if to say "I knew what I was doing, glad you two finally caught on".

Traveling

Time spent in the car traveling lately has always been about either getting there or getting back. Coming home from northern Mass today I decided to try to look at in a different way. Instead of punching in home on the GPS and going with "fastest time" I decided that we should take the roundabout way home. There is so much more of this country to see if you can stay off of the highways for a while. We got to travel through some quaint little New England towns on the way home. Went down lots of little twisty turny roads and even ended up on one Vermont road that isn't even paved! The other thing we concentrated on was talking. It is too easy to just turn on the radio and ignore the passenger when you are hurrying from point A to point B. It is nice to have a captive audience for a few hours. It is nicer still to BE a captive audience for a few hours. I realize when we are in the car talking that I listen alot more because I am not headed off to another room or to another chore. Even with the rain and lack of visibility the ride was wonderful because of the company.

Reality, is it fact or fiction?

Just an interesting thought, everybody assumes reality is real but what is real? I think that perception is reality. What you personally perceive to be real is your reality. This of course means that your reality and someone else's reality are not the same. How is that possible if reality is supposed to be real? I guess it goes to an old saying, there are two sides to every story. But that saying is a little off, it should go something like there are three sides to every story, side A side B and what really happened.
Try to keep that in mind the next time you are having a disagreement with someone. You may be sure of what really happened, but the other person is also sure of what really happened and you both may be way off!
I am sure that there is a verse from the Bible that goes along with this and if I could figure it out I would share it. Possibly I will stumble upon it. If I do I will be sure to share it.
